PARTIAL PAYMENTS

Money sent is not money confirmed.

A payment screenshot can help explain a transfer, but it is not the same as the recipient confirming the money arrived. Keep the original expense and every repayment visible, especially when the group or split changes later.

01 / START WITH THE SHARE

Calculate the share from the expense.

Suppose a $240 boat cost was shared by four travelers. Each owes $60 for the boat. The person who paid the boat company is a traveler too, so they carry their own $60 share and are owed $180 by the other three.

02 / RECORD THE TRANSFER

Record who sent money to whom.

If Ahmad sends Sherif $25, record a $25 transfer from Ahmad to Sherif. Ahmad still has $35 open for the boat. The payment is not a reduction of the $240 boat expense: the boat still cost $240, and Sherif still paid the company in full.

03 / CONFIRM BOTH SIDES

Let the recipient confirm receipt.

The sender can mark $25 as sent and attach a payment screenshot. The recipient checks their account and confirms or declines it. Until confirmation, show the transfer as pending and keep the open balance unchanged. A recipient-specific payment link helps the sender pay the right person, but it does not prove that payment happened.

04 / HANDLE CHANGES

Preserve credit if a share falls.

If Ahmad had already sent $60 and two more travelers join the boat split, his share drops to $40. Keep the confirmed $60 transfer. The extra $20 becomes a credit in the trip balance. Show the old payment and the new share side by side so everyone can see why the remaining amount changed.

Put the plan into practice.

TripAsOne lets your group plan, record actual expenses, and review what each person owes.
